A wonderfully fresh perspective on creativity by author Elizabeth Gilbert

I love the talks on TED. The guests  are incredibly inspiring, the topics diverse and always relevant.

Recently, a friend posted this talk on her Facebook profile and I just had to share. It’s a talk by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love .

It is helping me to shape my currently fragile attitude towards creating and rethink how I approach my creative projects.

Enjoy:

Featured Artwork: I want to join the circus

2009 Mixed-media painting Inspiration

For many months now, I’ve been thinking of clowns and masks. Perhaps this was a not-so subtle effect of seeing a Cirque du Soleil show last year, though I can’t discount the fact that I do have a fondness for clowns and masks.

I want to join the Circus is the first painting I’ve done since college. I don’t consider myself a painter so this piece was truly experimental.

She is approximately 9.75″ long by 5″ wide. She is made of wood and various acrylic paint and media.

She is for sale in my Etsy shop.

2009 Mixed-media painting

I’m not sure what to make of this painting. It was a frustrating start and I wasn’t sure if I had the stamina to even finish it. Painting is not my strength, though I plan to continue to experiment with the media to see where it will take me.

This is a mixed-media painting using acrylic, various acid-free paper, and oil stick. The canvas is approximately 20″x16″.
