Making art in spite of myself

Esmerelda, the finished piece

I am one of those people who has the uncanny ability to get in my own way.

I’m good at leaving my slippers in the middle of the room to trip over in the dark of night when I make the bathroom run.  Or leaving the dining room chairs in place as I vacuum around them, knowing full well how much easier (and cleaner!)  it would be to move them.

Featured Artwork: I want to join the circus

2009 Mixed-media painting Inspiration

For many months now, I’ve been thinking of clowns and masks. Perhaps this was a not-so subtle effect of seeing a Cirque du Soleil show last year, though I can’t discount the fact that I do have a fondness for clowns and masks.

I want to join the Circus is the first painting I’ve done since college. I don’t consider myself a painter so this piece was truly experimental.

She is approximately 9.75″ long by 5″ wide. She is made of wood and various acrylic paint and media.

She is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Featured Artwork: The Sun Wants to Shine

2009 Mixed-media painting

I’m not sure what to make of this painting. It was a frustrating start and I wasn’t sure if I had the stamina to even finish it. Painting is not my strength, though I plan to continue to experiment with the media to see where it will take me.

This is a mixed-media painting using acrylic, various acid-free paper, and oil stick. The canvas is approximately 20″x16″.
