I began to create original portraits of animals in 2016, after I started to volunteer at Oakland Animal Services. Initially, these portraits were of pets available for adoption at the shelter, with the idea that these prints would be given to their adopters. Then in 2020, the Friends of Oakland Animal Services began their popular “Bad Art” Fundraiser which triggered a change in my approach to the portraits. And when my practice of sketching daily began, my “bad art” portraits once again evolved!
